HAND CARVED
AMERICAN BULL SKULLS
SOUTHWESTERN SCRIMSHAW
Our carvings are inspired by the bow drilling of Inuit bone carvers and the floral patterns found on saddle work of the Spanish Colonial period.
Raw and Refined
Our raw bone carvings are stark, precise and complex.
The bone surface is textured with thousands of individually carved circles to accentuate its natural curves.
The colors of the horn banding are created with a fire curing process.
The bold stripes on the horns are influenced by Navajo chief blankets and ceremonial Hopi Katsina dolls.
The finished carving is painted with raw egg yolk and carbon black pigment made from charred bone.
Charred bone has been used as a pigment in the American Southwest for thousands of years.
Hand tooled, hand dyed American leather wraps the base of the horns.
