Coron Authentic Southwestern Art is made from salvaged wood and bone gathered from the American west.  Our unique designs utilize the historic character of reclaimed materials to evoke the early style and traditions of the western United States.  Made exclusively in Arizona.

Honest design exposes the nature of the material & the artist. The medium guides the hand. This is the art of a scavenger.

AMERICAN BUFFALO SKULL 53

HAND CARVED AMERICAN SKULLS

We bring out the natural iridescence of bone using traditional taxidermy techniques.  By carefully smoothing and contouring of the lines of each skull, we accentuate unique aspects of character that make each piece one-of-a-kind .

We clean our skulls meticulously using traditional taxidermy techniques.  Each piece comes with the appropriate wall mounting hardware.

AMERICAN BUFFALO SKULL 53

  • Coron Studios buffalo skulls are heritage breed cattle raised on a small family ranch in Big Timber, MT

  • The bone surface is textured with thousands of individually carved circles to accentuate its natural curves

  • The colors of the carved horn banding are created with fire

  • Hand tooled leather is dyed with a natural carmine pigment made from cochineal beetles that live on native southwestern prickly pear cactus

  • An antiqued solid brass ring with leather strap is included for wall mounting

Our carvings are inspired by the bow drilling of Native American Inuit bone carvers and the floral patterns found on saddle work of the Spanish Colonial period. The bold stripes on the horns are influenced by Navajo chief blankets and ceremonial Hopi Katsina dolls.
